Who is eligible to join ACU?

Membership is extended to current employees of our sponsor companies and the
member’s family.

  • Employees consist of individuals who are regular part-time or full-time employees of APAC, Arch Coal, Ashland Inc., LOOP, Marathon, Pilot, PTC, Speedway, and VIOC.

  • Family consists of spouse, grandparents, parents, children, grandchildren, siblings, and in-laws.

How do I become a member?

After meeting the eligibility qualifications, all you need to do is open a Regular Share (Savings) Account with a minimum deposit of $5.00.

How do I open a Savings Account?

In order to open a Regular Share (Savings) Account, simply complete an Account Card and mail it to ACU with either a payroll deduction authorization or a check deposit.

How do I access my accounts if I do not live in Ashland, KY?

There are several ways to access your account:

  • Use your FREE ATM/Check Card that is available with every checking account.  A simpler, more secure way to make everyday purchases.  The purchase amount is automatically deducted from your checking account.  It also doubles as your ATM card.
  • Use any ACU ATM machine or Alliance One  ATM machine to enjoy surcharge-free unlimited withdrawals, transfers, and balance inquiries.
  • By using the ACU telephone banking system at 1-800-245-8112, you can access your funds through ART, our toll free Audio Response Teller or contact a member service representative during our regular business hours.
  • Use our FREE Internet banking through Internet Teller at http://www.ashlandcu.org/it.  Our online service is both convenient and secure.  Now you can access your accounts when and where you want.  Check account balances, view history, and make transfers.
  • Use Direct Deposit.  Electronically deposit your paycheck, Social Security, or pension payment into your account.

If I change jobs or retire, can I remain a member of ACU?

ACU has a "ONCE A MEMBER, ALWAYS A MEMBER" policy.  Therefore, the advantage to joining ACU is that even if your eligibility status changes, your membership status does not!

What makes ACU better than my local bank?

A credit union is quite simply a not-for-profit organization in which members join together in order to provide financial services to one another.  This enables credit unions to typically offer lower loan rates and higher dividends rates.  By becoming a member, YOU (not a company or a private group of investors) have ownership in the institution.
